Principal Investigators
 |
Dr. David Weaver, PhD (McGill University, Canada 1990)
Associate Professor - Principal Investigator
David's specialties are chemical ecology and stored products entomology. The major objectives of his current research are to: identify sawfly pheromones, develop semiochemical-based management tools for the wheat stem sawfly, and promote aeration for pest management in stored wheat in Montana. |
 |
Dr. Wendell Morrill, PhD (University of Florida 1972)
Professor - Co-Principal Investigator
Wendell has worked for the MSU Department of Entomology since 1978. His specialty is biological control, with an emphasis on sawfly parasitoids. The major objectives of his current research are to: develop parasitoid rearing methods, examine the distribution of parasitoids in Montana, and identify sawfly pathogens.

 |
Dr. Robert Peterson, PhD (University of Nebraska 1995)
Associate Professor - Co-Principal Investigator
Bob has worked for MSU since 2002. His specialty is ecological risk assessment. The emphases of his current research are: physiological plant responses to biotic stress, food toxicology, and risk assessment of plant-based pharmaceuticals and genetically engineered crops. |
Postdoctoral Research Associates
|
Dr. Kevin Delaney , PhD (University of Nebraska, 2003)
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Kevin joined our team in December, 2006. His previous research efforts included the study of ecophysiological responses of plants to insect herbivory. Kevin can apply that experience to the sawfly system, where he will study the impact of sawfly and abiotic stressors to wheat plants. |
|
Micaela Buteler, PhD (Montana State University, 2008)
Postdoctoral Research Associate
Mica earned has worked with us since 2002. She earned her PhD in 2008 and continues to explore strategies for integrated pest management of the wheat stem sawfly. Her dissertation focused on the potential implementation of trap strips to control the sawfly. Her current work is an expansion of what she learned on that project. |
Research Support
 |
Megan Hofland, B.S. (Montana State University 2003)
Research Associate
Megan has a B.S. in Biology and has worked with us since 1999. She is currently involved, in some aspect, with nearly every project our team is working on. Her specialties include: greenhouse maintenance, supervision and implementation of field work, data entry, statistical analyses, and report writing.

Norma Irish, (New Castle Business College 1982)
Research Associate
Norma joined the lab in 2005. Her work focuses on HPLC analysis of plant secondary metabolites, and molecular biology techniques. She is also responsible for implementation of pest control in greenhouse environments. |
|
Jenny Marquez
Research Associate, B.S. (Instituto Universitario Jesus Enrique Lossada 1995)
Jenny has been at the Sawfly Research Lab since 2004. Her specialties include planting and tending plants in the greenhouses and data processing.

Graduate Students
|
Oscar Perez, M.S. (University of Florida 2000)
PhD Candidate
Oscar has a master's degree in entomology and joined our program in 2004. His specialties are biological control and conspecific competition. His dissertation focuses on parasitoid chemical ecology and responses of the parasitoid to volatile stimuli using a Gas Chromatograph - Electroanntenogram Device
