4-19-2007 Ph.D. student Ian Foley has been nominated to a position on the Board of Councilors of the Coleoptersists Society.  The Coleopterists Society is publisher of the quarterly journal The Coleopterists Bulletin, and is the world's largest orginzation of entomologists who study the
evolution, taxonomy and biology of beetles.  The Board of Councilors is the governing body of the organization, overseeing policy and budgitary matters.  It is a recognition of his standing the community for him to have been nomiated while still a graduate student.
3-12-2007 Kevin O'Neill has received one of only two MSU James and Mary Ross Provost's Awards for Excellence for 2007. From the introductory criteria paragraph: The James and Mary Ross Provost's Award for Excellence will recognize excellence in teaching and scholarship at Montana State University-Bozeman. Particular emphasis will be placed on faculty with superior scholarship/research credentials teaching first year, sophomore or core courses. Evaluation criteria will be based on the nominee's teaching, and scholarship/research. It is notable that Kevin was nominated for this award through the College of Letters and Science, as he teaches several courses in the BIOL rubric, as well as commonly participating in CLS Seminar courses. Kevin has also been very active in the CORE 2.0 curricular planning, and is a stalwart of the Entomology Teaching Program.
12-13-2006 Marjolein Schat was awarded 1st place (out of 127 submissions) for her 10 minute presentation, 'Impact of Mecinus janthinus injury on growth and primary physiology of Dalmatian toadflax' at the 2006 ESA meetings.
12-13-2006 Micaela Buteler was awarded honorable mention (out of 59 submissions) for her 10 minute presentation, 'Wheat varieties differing in semiochemical production influence the effectiveness of trap cropping for the wheat stem sawfly Cephus cinctus Norton (Hymenoptera: Cephidae)' at the 2006 ESA meetings.
9-29-2006 Justin Runyon earned a master’s degree in entomology from Montana State University in 2001 studying the parasitism of the wheat stem sawfly. He is now a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Entomology at Penn State University. Recently he was published as senior author in Science vol. 313: 'Volatile chemical cues guide host selection and host location by parasitic plants' - Runyon, Mescher, and Moraes.
